We’re happy to announce our line-up of experts and their seminars covering 15 different topics, starting this Saturday and running right through Christmas.  They’re all free, except for a couple of fees for materials.  For more details and to sign up, click the link to the location.


Thinking Outside the Mum. 
Tired of the same ol’, same ol’? Our designer Sara will be hosting an inspirational seminar showcasing the diverse selection of materials available for Fall plantings. We’ll present endless options for rich, jewel-toned foliage and flowers, without a mum in sight. We’ll show you how to combine annuals, perennial, herbs, even evergreens to create a unique and colorful look. Come and be inspired!! Your Lawn Needs You Now   Did you know that what you do for your lawn right now can make all the difference next spring and summer? Join us as our lawn pro, James Redding explains how, with a little elbow grease and a few well chosen lawn products you can revive your lawn, grow thicker healthier grass and reduce weeds. Fall Bulb Planting 101 Demonstration. Love tulips and daffodils? Well, if you want them next spring, you have got to plant bulbs this fall. Join us as resident bulb booster, Peter Vera, presents this practical demonstration. Learn about bulb selection, growing conditions, and planting technique. Novices welcome.  Location and Date: 9/18 in Winchester.

Fall is for Planting.  Join Mahoney’s horticulturalists, Dave Carpinella and Marcia Chapman, for an informative, inspiring seminar on perennial and shrub gardens specifically for the Cape. Learn composition and design techniques, which varieties are Cape-hardy and how to keep your plants healthy all winter long. Discussion includes Holland bulbs and season-extending cold-tolerant annuals.  Locations and Date:  9/18 in East Falmouth and Tewksbury.

Gardening for Little Sprouts. We’ve created this seminar especially for children. Our team member Maria, who is also a 4th grade teacher, will explain plants and their care in a manner that is easy for children to understand. The children will also have the opportunity to repot and take home a goldfish plant of their very own. Caring for a plant is a great way to teach responsibility! It’s never too early to start a lifelong bond with nature. All ages welcome.  Location and Date: 9/26 in Brighton.

 

All Things Houseplants   Everything you have ever wanted to know about growing plants indoors. We will discuss basic care, which types of plants do well in the 3 different light levels, plants that are easy care and plants that aren’t. We will also talk about common insect problems, what to do about them and when to repot. There will be plenty of time to ask as many questions as you like! Locations and Dates: 9/18 in East Falmouth, 9/25 in Tewksbury, 10/3 in Brighton, and 11/20 in Winchester

Art of Terraria.  Plants have been grown indoors in miniature conservatories and terrariums since Victorian times. We invite you to explore a self-sustaining world under glass. We’ll show you the various plants that thrive in an enclosed environment and the materials needed to create it. Location and Date: 10/9 in Brighton.

Putting your Garden to Bed.  Have you ever wondered what you could be doing to your roses, dahlias, delphiniums or azaleas to better prepare them for the cold weather?  Our in-house expert Mark will give you the tools needed to prepare your garden beds and container plantings for the long winter months.  We will cover annuals, perennials, trees and shrubs. We will also discuss winterizing pottery, statuary and fountains. Locations and Dates: 10/16 in East Falmouth, 10/17 in Brighton, and  11/6 in Winchester.

Pumpkin-Caqrving Contest.  Join us for an afternoon filled with fun! There will be face painting, music, apple cider and a pumpkin carving contest. The winner will receive a $50 gift certificate, good at all Mahoney’s locations. Location and date:  10/30 in Brighton.

Putting your Landscape to Bed.  Do you know how to prepare your shrubs, trees, perennials & grasses for the cold weather? Preparing your landscape appropriately can make a big difference to how it emerges in the Spring.  Our in-house expert Amy Van Doren will show you how to prepare your beds and containers for the long winter months. We’ll cover many aspects of the planted landscape as well as containers & water features.  Location and Date:  11/6 in Winchester.

Festival Floral Arrangements in a Pumpkin Workshop.  Join our Florist Manager, Sophia Khalil, for this popular hands-on workshop. Learn the principles and techniques to make your own fall floral arrangement, displayed in a hollowed pumpkin. $35 material fee, and your delightful class creation is yours to take home and enjoy. No experience necessary.  Location and Date:  11/13 in Winchester.

Fabulous Thanksgiving Table Fashions Want to wow your guests? Then don’t miss Mahoney’s style guru Peter Vera for a truly inspiring seminar on how to set a smashing Thanksgiving table. From traditional to contemporary and beyond, you’ll learn designer tips and secrets on every aspect of setting a festive table, just in time for the holidays. Christmas Tree Creations.  Fact is, most people find decorating for the holidays confusing and a bit overwhelming. That’s why our holiday hottie, Peter Vera has created this special seminar. Learn the secret to proper tree lighting, ornament hanging, décor collections and much, much more. Peter will also give designer tips and suggestions on how to add complementary decorations to your collection.  Location and Date: 12/4 in Winchester.
