Can you suggest an easy care ground cover for a 6 to 8 foot section around a tree adjacent to a city sidewalk in Lowell. Grass won’t grow well and edible herbs would not be safe to eat. Area is subject to road salt in winter.

English ivy would work. The Chameleon plant will also do very well. What i like about the chameleon plant is that is has tri color leaves. Ammend the soil with a compost to give the plants a good start this year.
