Hedge for narrow space
Question
Hedge for narrow space
Additional Details
We have a space roughly 20” wide by 17’ long between our driveway and our neighbor’s fence where I’d like to plant a privacy screen that will grow to at least 6 feet tall. Any recommendations? The 2 species I came across that I thought might fit are: 1) Rhamnus frangula fine line, and 2) Taxus x media ‘Hicksii’. My concern is that nothing that tall will work well in such a narrow space and we’ll need to ask the neighbors to plant it on their side.
Thank you for your help!
Answer
The taxus will get to big. Assuming that there is more sun than shade,Columnar Boxwood, Sky Pencil Japanes Holly ( you will have to tie up the branches to prevent splitting). California Privet, but will have to shear at some point to keep it narrow and at 6’. Degrout Arboravitae which has a tighter habbit than other Arbs. You may encounter eventually some die back on the fence side of the plants if they are an evergreen and if it is a wooden fence. Come and take a look at some options.
