Question

Pruning LimeLight Hydrangae Tree

Additional Details

Hello, I planted 5 of these trees last year. I cut off the dead/dried blooms in November. The trees look like dead wood with just 1/2 sticks shooting out. Did I prune too early? Should I do a little trim again to get the growth going? Will my trees be ok? Not one little bud :-(

Answer

You did the right thing by dead heading the plant. Hydrageas are a late bloomer so you won’t see any growth on them till about May, so let them be and once the new growth has formed on the stems you will see the dead wood that needs to come out.

Thank you for getting back to

Thank you for getting back to me. So for these types of Hydrangeas should they be pruned in the fall or in the spring? I couldnt really find an answer online. Should I also fertilize them soon or wait until I see buds?
